How to choose your dental loupes?
Dental loupes are important tools in the dental field. If you are planning to use them then it makes sense for you to learn how to choose the right loupes. The first thing that you have to do is make sure of choosing the proper magnification and working distance as only then can you be sure that you can perform your duties in the most ergonomically effective manner.

It is well-known that only if the dentist is able to work while assuming the proper posture will he or she be able to reduce eyestrain and back as well as shoulder and neck pain. The correct working posture also ensures that the dentist will not suffer from headaches that can be caused by stress. Equally important is it for the dentist to understand the psychological impact that good ergonomics have on their ability to make the right diagnosis as well as decisions.

Proper resolution is the second important factor that can help you choose the right dental loupes. If the resolution is low and there are certain aberrations then the loupes will not serve any real good purpose.

Resolution is the ability of the optical system to enable the user to distinguish between two objects and to recognize details.

If you are going to compare dental loupes then you need to view an object and find out how well the loupes allow you to see small areas with magnification.

You also need to make sure that the loupes do not suffer from color distortions. Blue is a color that generally comes out of focus. So, try and look at black lines on a piece of white colored paper and see if there is any blue hazy colors close to the black lines.

Thirdly, before choosing your dental loupes you will need to perform a test on the magnification of the loupe. How much or how little magnification is right for your needs depends on your individual preferences.

To choose the right magnification it makes sense for you to pick the lowest possible comfortable magnification, as that will provide you with the widest possible field of view.

Next, you need to perform a test on the working distance, which is the distance between the practitioner’s eyes and the mouth of the patient. Once this has been checked, you will then need to perform a check on the field of view, which is the area that can be seen by the naked eye and which is in focus when you are looking through your loupes. It pays to go with a bigger field of view as then more area will be visible through the loupes and the practitioner will therefore not have to move his or her head to get a clear view.

It is also important that you perform a check on the depth of view, which is the area that you can see and focus on through your loupe. The larger the field of view is the better it is.

Finally, before choosing your dental loupes you should also compare the prescription lenses and ensure that you can fit the frames of the loupe over the prescription lenses. There is one last thing that you need to do when choosing your dental loupes and that is to ensure that the weight of the loupes is right. This is especially important if you plan on wearing the loupes for extended periods of time.
